Hello, this is John Marichak, Superintendent of the Dunmore School District.

I am calling today with an update on our upcoming graduation ceremony.  Today is May 27.  We determined this date to be our decision date several weeks ago. We needed to consider many variables when making this important decision.  Some of the variables are very fluid and change rapidly.

We chose July 17 as a fall back date for our ceremony.   The hope was that the conditions would improve in terms of the number of cases and trends and we would be able to graduate from our stadium in person. This is not possible at this time, but if conditions improve, it is our best case scenario.

So, at this time graduation for the Class of 2020 is tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 17 with a rain date of Saturday, July 18.

As everyone knows, this is not set in stone.  We feel this is our best option right now.  There will be periodic updates to allow families the proper time to plan and schedule these events. Details of the parameters for the ceremony will be released as the date draws nearer.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause any families, but it appears to be our best option.

Thank you and have a good day

John Marichak, Superintendent of the Dunmore School District

I am calling to remind everyone that our campus playgrounds, athletic field, field house and parking lots are closed and off limits.  There should be no congregating in these areas for the health and safety of everyone.

Our trail and track are open for exercise, but only if proper social distancing is practiced.

Please respect these actions for everyone’s well-being.

Thank You

John Marichak

Raania Ahmed, a first grade student in Mrs. Lucas's class, won an award of excellence at the National PTA Reflections competition.  The Award of Excellence is a Silver Medal and $200 youth scholarship, a certificate of excellence and her work will be featured in a traveling exhibit.  She entered the Music Composition category and composed an original song titled "Feel 4 You".  Congratulations on an outstanding achievement.

Four 8th grade students representing Dunmore Jr/Sr High School took home the Best Action Plan Award in the 3rd annual What’s So Cool About Manufacturing Northeast PA contest. The team members include Julianna Argust, Noah Dougherty, Quinn Healey, and Maura Michalczyk. Students visited Mitsubishi Advanced Chemicals in Scranton and assembled a video highlighting the work done there. The Dunmore video vied against videos from six other schools in the Northeast PA region.  From this group, Dunmore students were recognized for writing the best Action Plan.

An Action Plan for this competition includes a step by step map of the students’ plan to gain votes from the community. Representing the 9 square miles that comprise the Dunmore School District, the students devised a plan that included asking for support from the district and Dunmore community. The eleven page action plan included emails to be sent to teachers, posters to be displayed throughout the schools asking students to vote, and social media posts requesting votes.

The students worked tirelessly on this project and thank the Dunmore School District administration, staff, and the Dunmore community for of all of their support. Go Bucks!

REMINDER - FORMAL PLANNED INSTRUCTION

Hello,

This is John Marichak, Superintendent of the Dunmore School District.

This call is to remind everyone that by directive of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, we have transitioned to a formal planned instruction program.

We began the process on Monday, April 20, 2020.

This is no longer voluntary for students.  They must attend and participate.  Teachers take attendance and are reporting it to administration.  Timelines may be attached to assignments and consequences may result from failure to participate or complete assigned work.

Attendance is constituted by checking in with their teachers, participation in work, activities and assignments required by our teachers.

New information/content/curriculum is be part of the lessons offered by our teachers.

This program will work best if there is a support structure within the home.

If there are any problems that you are experiencing, please work with your child’s teacher, administrator or this office.  Problems may include access, technology, scheduling and so on.  We have people in place to troubleshoot these issues.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

More information may follow.

Please stay safe.

Thank You

John Marichak

Superintendent, Dunmore School District
