With the development of the Pennsylvania Core Standards, including the Keystone Anchors, the Grade Level and Social Studies/History Department teachers of the Dunmore School District has revised and updated the Social Studies/History curriculum guides from Kindergarten to Grade 12. These curriculum guides include all required, elective, and Advance Placement courses. The goal of the Grade Level and Social Studies/History Department teachers is to ensure the success of our students in their present and future academic, communal, and societal endeavors.
As described in these curriculum guides, the content of the courses is aligned to the recommendations of the National and State Committees. The implementation of these courses in the classroom has allowed teachers to follow the National and State Committees recommendations and has provided the teachers the flexibility to adjust the courses to meet the students’ academic needs.
Included in the curriculum guides are suggested timelines for each topic to be covered. This is just a guide. Each individual teacher is to use his or her professional experience and judgement to make the appropriate adjustments to the timeline to benefit the students’ abilities and needs and to modify the timeline to account for unforeseen schedule changes.
It is the goal and responsibility of the Grade Level and Social Studies/History Department Teachers to monitor and revise these curriculum guides to enhance the students’ educational experiences. It is also our goal and responsibility to assist both the experienced and inexperienced teachers of the Dunmore School District to implement these curriculum guides as set forth by the recommendations of the National and State Committees.
