On behalf of the Dunmore Middle School administration, faculty and staff, we take pleasure in welcoming you to Dunmore Middle School. We are very proud of the Dunmore Middle School’s tradition of excellence in the classroom and in extra curricular activities. We hope you will add to this tradition and participate in our varied programs. To Students: As a Dunmore Middle School student, you will be held accountable to maintain a consistent positive attitude and strong work ethic, be respectful to others, complete assignments on time through adequate preparation and organization, follow all school rules and procedures outlined in this handbook, take pride in yourself, family, community, and school and strive to be the best student and person you can be! To Parents: Early Adolescence is a tricky time not just for parents but for our students as well. Middle school age students need continuous parental support and reinforcement that their education is of utmost importance to their overall development as an adolescent. Your cooperation and support in helping us attain this mindset on behalf of our students and seek to achieve educational accomplishments and set reachable goals will undoubtedly make our shared responsibilities considerably more meaningful for your child; our student. Good luck at Dunmore Middle School and, remember our motto is “Service through Pride and Tradition”. Please be respectful to all, and you will gain respect for yourself. New- Announcements: Thank you to the leadership, hard work, and effort of former Dunmore alumni and current professor at Lackawanna College, Mr. Larry Pugliese and Erica Barone, Director of Grant Support Services – Lackawanna College; we had 24 eighth grade middle school students who applied to the United Cultures Leadership Institute and its United Cultures Leadership Academy (UCLA). The mission of the UCLA in its first year is to nurture and challenge independent minds by exposing them to a structured curriculum consisting of higher level and cirtical thinking skills associated with diversity, morals, ethics, races, ethnicities, religions, socioeconomic differences and age groups throughout the United States of America. The four core subject areas of the Academy are Human Diversity, Economics, The Natural Environment, and Critical Thinking. The UCLA is striving to capture the attention of future influential guest speakers such as Vice President, Joe Biden as well as local speakers to meet with our first cohort of students. Upon completion of the five year academy, these students will earn a diploma in Leadership awarded by the United Cultures Leadership Academy as part of the United Cultures Leadership Institute. The following students who have been selected as the first UCLA Cohort will meet one Saturday per month beginning this Saturday on September 12, 2009. We at Dunmore Middle School are very proud of our students who were interested and willing to pursue this wonderful leadership opportunity that was presented to our seventh grade class last school year. Every student was given the opportunity to apply. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FOLLOWING 8TH GRADE STUDENTS FOR THE 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR WHO HAVE BEEN SELECTED INTO THE UCLA! SHAYNA BLACK WAY TO GO!
